I have been exploring the leg shape of my chair, but haven't come across any solutions, that fit my comfort theme. I have tried to create a shorter chair which for fills my theme.

The metal strip legs I have experimented with have not worked but I feel the sketch on the right with the solid legs is a way forward.

I have quickly experimented with a rocker chair as this may evoke a feeling of comfort and memory's of Grampa's old chair.

Still experimenting with the back rest and the legs. I think a solid back and legs would evoke the feeling of comfort.

I have now established the form of the legs, a solid front to them will provide a stable platform for the chair.

The sketch on the left, I feel is a right step towards my goal of a chair that screams comfort. The slight curve in the back rest looks as though its been worn in for you. The side panels of wood veneer add a modern touch to the chair.

And so the excitement of the sketch work is almost over!

Vetro Rocker Chair

http://www.homedit.com/modern-vetro-rocker-chair/

The Vetro rocker convays the comfort and the memories that i wish my chair to have. The clear acrylic legs also creates the arms, it also makes the chair resemble an old comfy armchair.

Sketches and development

I have looked into adding a suspension like feel to my chair. This would give the chair a sinking into feeling which you get with a big comfy arm chair, but these designs don't convay the look of comfort.

I have started to style the chair more on an arm chair, the thick padding of the seat will give a look and feel of comfort for the user.

This design I have come to resembles a arm chair with the thick padding and leather cover. I have added a side panel of a wood veneer to add a homely feel to the side view.

From my feedback, I am going to explore a shorter stockier chair.

Knitted- material

Vast amout of item/products/art work can be made from knitted material. It give me a sence of a warm winter jumper or scarf holding you close to keep you warm.

I feel the knitted texture of the seats will give a look of comfort as well as feel of comfort.

Chair Specification, Sketches.

Studio chair spec's.

I started looking at one piece chairs, as manufacturing costs would be dramatically reduced, but these options/design didn't convay the comfort I am looking for.

Direction so far.

I feel from my research that I want to focus on comfort, for the theme of my chair. I feel this will envoke memories of relations eg. Grandad's old comfy arm chair.

I found these images helpful as they create a homely vibe. soft textures, and soft tones add to the comfort of an object/room.

Comfort- sink into the chair.

I have looked at creating designs which the user can sink into it, to help provide comfort.

I have later found a current chair which uses these principles.

The designer William Lee, has created a chair which uses the sink into method, the users shape defines the chairs shape whilst in use. The simple structure is transformed into a fluid shape whilst in use. The name 'Conform' fits what the chair does, it conforms to the users shape.

Comfort in a seat, I feel that this is represented by sinking into quicksand. It has the same effect as an old comfy armchair. It traps you into the sand, just like the chair convinces you to stay longer than you intend to stay.
